RUSSIAN MPS DISCUSS WITH PERUVIAN OPPOSITE NUMBERS EXPANSION OF TIES BETWEEN RUSSIA AND PERU

BUENOS AIRES, June 16 (RIA Novosti's Yury Nikolayev) - Deputies of the upper chamber of the Russian parliament - the Federation Council - have ventilated with their Peruvian counterparts the expansion of ties between Russia and Peru.

"Russian MPs view contacts with Peru as promising not only in terms of inter-parliamentary links, but also in terms of building up potential in various fields," Nikolai Tulayev, leader of the delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, told RIA Novosti.

The chairman of the Federation Council's commission on regulations and organisation of parliamentary activity noted that "National Assembly President Henry Pease supported the Russian legislators' mood for promotion of diverse and varied contacts between Russia and Peru."

During the visit there were meetings and discussions between Russian MPs and members of the National Congress of Peru - the chairman of the parliamentary League of Friendship of Peru, capital city mayor Luis Castaneda, and the Foreign Ministry leadership.

The delegation of Russian parliamentarians stayed in Peru from June 13-15.
