SCO COUNTRIES TO COOPERATE IN FOREIGN POLICY

TASHKENT, June 18 (RIA Novosti) - Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries - Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan - will hold consultations at various levels for more effective interaction in foreign policy. The protocol on cooperation signed by SCO countries' foreign ministries on Thursday in Tashkent stipulates this.

"The protocol will make it possible to more efficiently cooperate within the SCO framework in foreign policy to search for common points of view on foreign policy issues of common interest, including in international organizations and at international forums," spokesman of the Russian foreign ministry Alexander Yakovenko told journalists on Thursday.

According to him, the consultations will be conducted at various levels with a view to compare positions or work out common viewpoints on the main international problems, especially on the issues of strengthening peace and international security in the region and around it.

"The consultations will be held at various levels with a view to compare positions or work out common points of view on the main international problems, especially on the issues strengthening peace and international security in the Central Asian region and around it, the formation of the effective system of collective security in the Asia Pacific region and on the problem of combating international terrorism, extremism, transnational organised crime, illegal weapons and drugs trafficking," Yakovenko said.

According to him, working groups of experts may be created on the sides' mutual accord on the temporary basis.

The SCO Secretariat will work out the annual draft program of cooperation between the foreign ministries of the SCO countries for the next calendar year, Yakovenko reported.
