"I believe our discussions on accession to the WTO are extremely helpful," the president said at an extended meeting of the Interstate Council of the Eurasian Economic Community (Eurasec).
"I believe all parties seek efficient coordination on the matter," he continued. "Such a coordinated approach consolidates our positions in dialogue with the WTO considerably."
Mr. Putin also noted the importance of agreements on cooperation on the securities markets and on the fundamentals of Eurasec legislation, which had been prepared for signing.
"The latter document is particularly important," said Mr. Putin. "It will actually provide for important conditions for creating direct action law within the community, which were nonexistent before."
Mr. Putin was positive that the Astana meeting would be a major step toward achieving these goals.
The Russian leader assessed the Eurasec's current status. "First, the Eurasec has gained international authority," he said.
According to him, the community has been given observer status at the United Nations General Assembly and other influential international organizations are showing an interest in contacts with the Eurasec "The Eurasec by its mere existence has a positive effect on all the countries of the former Soviet Union," said the president.
The president also noted Eurasec countries' considerable economic growth. "The national economies have been showing sustainable economic development, their investment activities and foreign trade are developing dynamically and social security indicators are changing for the better," said Mr. Putin.
Mr. Putin also praised the efficient use of natural resources and the integration potentials. "It is important that we keep up with the times, pay attention to modern global integration trends, and continue forward movement," emphasized the Russian leader.
