MOSCOW, June 18 (RIA Novosti) - 107 natural fires in Russia cover the total area of 8,621 hectare, the information department of the Russian Emergencies Ministry told RIA Novosti.
"In the last 24 hours the fires covered 2,242 hectares, including 1,904 hectares of forests," the Emergencies Ministry said.
According to its data, six fires (3,095 hectares) hit the Chita region (Siberia's south) and two fires (1,450 hectares) hit Yakutia (East Siberia).
"The fires do not threaten settlements, nature reserves, oil and gas pipelines and other economic objects," the Emergencies Ministry stressed.
All in all, 1,898 people, 320 technical units and 33 airplanes are involved in fire extinguishing, RIA Novosti's interlocutor added.
