KAZAKH PRESIDENT COMES OUT FOR NATO-ODKB COOPERATION

ASTANA, June 18 (RIA Novosti) - Constructive cooperation with NATO and other international organizations will boost the efficiency of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (ODKB), Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev told a press conference after the ODKB summit.

The document on the main trends of ODKB-NATO cooperation was adopted following the session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization's Council. Among these trends is the fight against international terrorism, drug trafficking and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Agreements on mutual preservation of classified information within the ODKB framework and on operative development of ODKB territory and joint use of military infrastructure objects were signed, as well.

"Priorities of ODKB development cover a wide range of aspects, including political interaction on the international scene, consolidation of coalition principles in military building, and joint fight against terrorism and extremism," Kazakhstan's leader said.

Moreover, "we coordinated approaches to free training of the personnel of ODKB power bodies," he noted.

"Joint peacekeeping activities under UN mandate is a new promising sphere of our cooperation," Nursultan Nazarbayev added.

"The new documents regulating the order of ODKB activities show that the Collective Security Treaty Organization is an influential international organization," he concluded.
