"A special operation in Makhachkala was carried out by the Dagestan department of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB)," a source in the law enforcement bodies told RIA Novosti. "The FSB special forces conducted the operation after receiving information about wanted criminals being in the house."
According to the source, the militants fired grenade launchers in an attempt to break through.
"Apparently, there were two militants and both were killed by return fire," the source said.
The Kirovsky district (Makhachkala) Prosecutor's Office is conducting the investigation.
As a result of this operation, a woman was detained, the source said.
No information has been reported about the woman, who may be the owner of the house where the militants were staying.
The operation against the group of militants lasted the entire night. In the morning, Federal Security Service (FSB) special forces stormed the house that the militants were hiding in. According to preliminary data, the group carried out terrorist attacks against members of the Interior Ministry and the FSB.
According to neighbors, the owner of the house rented it to strangers several days ago.
Two FSB officers were wounded. One of them was operated on and then placed in the intensive care unit of an emergency hospital, RIA Novosti was told in the casualty ward.
The doctors said that the officer's condition was stable but critical and that he was under anesthesia.
The second FSB officer was wounded in the right thigh and is not in a serious condition. After he was treated at the republican emergency medical center, he was taken to a hospital.
