"In the capitals of both countries [officials] are aware that the attained level of trade-economic interaction is far from corresponding either to the possibilities of Russia and Japan, or to the scale of the tasks they face," the Foreign Ministry officials stressed.
"Russia proceeds from the idea that the Moscow talks of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan who is also a co-chairperson of the Russian-Japanese intergovernmental commission on trade-economic issues will help make headway in deciding the respective questions," the Ministry officials went on to say.
Moscow expects that directions of the further improvement of the contractual-legal base of bilateral trade-economic relations will be considered at the negotiations, the officials of Russia's Foreign Ministry noted.
"The matter concerns, in particular, working out of a program for developing cooperation in the energy sphere, as well as in the search for possibilities to reach new accords in the spheres of the nuclear power industry, transportation, communications and information technologies, and space," the department officials said.
The official visit of Japan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoriko Kawaguchi to Moscow will be made from June 23 to 25.
