VIKTOR GERASHCHENKO ELECTED YUKOS BOARD MEMBER

MOSCOW, June 24 (RIA Novosti) - State Duma deputy, ex-President of the Russian Central Bank Viktor Gerashchenko was elected a YUKOS board member, a YUKOS minority shareholder said.

According to him, this decision was taken at the current annual session of YUKOS shareholders.

The new board of directors was approved at the session. It includes 11 people, Viktor Gerashchenko, independent consultants Yuri Golubev and Raj Kumar Gupta, GM Investment & Co. Ltd. Director Francois Buclez, Kajis Sari manager Jacques Kosciusko-Morizet, Alexei Kontorovich, director of the Oil and Gas Geology Institute of the Siberian department of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Squire, Sanders & Dempsey lawyer and partner Sarah Carey, Loze & Associes President Bernard Loze, Halliburton Company chief executive officer Edgar Ortiz, rector of Tomsk Polytechnic University Yuri Pokholkov and Schlumberger Ltd. Treasurer Michel Soublin.

Viktor Gerashchenko was born in Leningrad on December 21, 1937. In 1960 he graduated from the Moscow Finance Institute. He is a professor and Doctor of Economy. Mr. Gerashchenko is married and has two children. He is awarded with two Orders of the Labor Red Banner.

In 1960-1961 he was a Central Bank accountant. In 1961-1965 Viktor Gerashchenko worked as accountant, inspector, expert and department head of the USSR Foreign Trade Bank. In 1965-1967 he was the Moscow Narodny Bank director in London. In 1967-1972 he headed the Moscow Narodny Bank in Lebanon. In 1972-1974 Mr. Gerashchenko worked as deputy head of the USSR Foreign Trade Bank. In 1974-1977 he was chairman of the board of the Soviet Bank in the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1977-1982 he headed the department of the Moscow Narodny Bank in Singapore.

In 1982-1983 Viktor Gerashchenko was deputy chairman of the board of the Bank of USSR Foreign Economic Activities. In 1983-1985 he worked as deputy chairman of the board of the Bank for USSR Foreign Trade. In 1985-1987 he was firstdeputy chairman of the board of the USSR Foreign Trade Bank. In 1988-1989 Mr. Gerashchenko worked as first deputy chairman of the board of the Bank of USSR Foreign Economic Activities.

In 1989-1991 he was chairman of the board of the USSR State Bank. In 1991 Viktor Gerashchenko was appointed chairman of the USSR State Bank. In 1992 he was made head of the credit and monetary policy department of the international fund of economic and social reforms. In 1992-1994 he worked as chairman of the Russian Central Bank. In 1993-1994 he was Russia's authorized representative in the Interstate Bank Council and chairman of the CIS Interstate Bank Council. In 1994-1995 Mr. Gerashchenko worked in the research institute of the Russian Bank. In 1996 he was appointed chairman of the board of the International Moscow Bank. In 1998 he became chairman of the Russian Central Bank.

In November 1998 Viktor Gerashchenko was made representative in the International Monetary Fund. In August 2000 he was dismissed from this post. In September 2001 he claimed his intention not to remain the Central Bank chairman for the second term (the first term expired in October 2002).

On March 15, 2002 Viktor Gerashchenko was dismissed from this post. After that, he worked as a senior official of the Central Bank research institute. In 2003 he was elected State Duma deputy of the Rodina (Motherland) patriotic bloc.

Mr. Gerashchenko hoped to head the State Duma committee for banks but he had to content himself with the post of Rodina cochairman.

According to experts, the membership of pro-governmental representative Viktor Gerashchenko in the YUKOS board will have a positive influence on the company's activities. They expect him to replace Semyon Kukes on the post of YUKOS CEO.

Mr. Kukes is both YUKOS President and CEO.
