JAPANESE CORPORATION MATSUSHITA STEPS UP OPERATIONS IN RUSSIA

TOKYO, June 27 (RIA Novosti's Andrey Fesyun) -- Japanese corporation Matsushita Denki, a world major producer of electronics and consumer goods, intends to step up communication with Russian consumers.

According to the Sunday issue of major Japanese industrial newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Matsushita plans to double its sales in Russia by 2006 to 100 billion yens (about $1 billion).

Compact video cameras, TV sets, and air conditioners account for best corporation's sales in Russia. Matsushita considers the possibility of assembling the most popular goods locally.

Matsushita was the first world consumer industry major to come to the Russian marketplace before the country enjoyed sustained economic growth. Registered as Panasonic Russia, the company began aggressive marketing and recently has been involving Russian research organizations in its engineering R&D projects.

According to the newspaper, Matsushita's leadership does not rule out that in the future Panasonic Engineering CIS could be created for the production and sales of Matsushita makes in the post-Soviet countries.
