INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE "50 YEARS OF NUCLEAR ENERGY - LESSONS AND TASKS" OPENS IN MOSCOW

MOSCOW/VIENNA, June 27 (RIA Novosti) -- International conference "50 Years of Nuclear Energy - Lessons and Tasks" has opened in Moscow on Sunday.

The forum under the auspices of the Russian Government involves Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei, many Russian state officials, and over 500 nuclear energy experts from all over the world.

Officials at the Vienna-based IAEA headquarters told RIA Novosti that the core item on the agenda of the conference was to determine the current state and the outlook for nuclear energy on the 50th anniversary of launching the world-first nuclear power plant in the Russian town of Obninsk (Kaluga region, about 90 miles south of Moscow) on June 26, 1954.

The international conference will last until Friday.
