In the course of the two-day conference "Russia-USA: In the Eyes of Each Other" such issues as international security, globalization, ecology, fight against AIDS as well as other topical present-day issues were discussed by Russian and American prominent political and public activists, the Russian organizers of the conference disclosed to a RIA Novosti.
The discussion touched upon a block of issues concerning Russia's interaction with NATO country-members, redeployment of American soldiers to the countries of Eastern Europe and Asian countries, possible accession of Russia to the WTO and foreign investments into Russia.
Many participants in the conference pointed out that American businessmen are still afraid to invest into Russia since they believe it to be risky due to remaining corruption and imperfectness of Russian Judiciary and banking systems.
According to the organizers of the conference, the participants in the conference acknowledged a certain breakthrough in the Russo-American relations at a high level.
"Nevertheless, Russia and the USA still have contradictions concerning some issues including the problem of the NATO military presence in the CIS member-countries," the Russian organizers of the conference noted.
As it was stated at the final press-conference, this year within the framework of the Leaders project similar meetings of Russian and American political elite are planned to be held in Florida, USA and in the Pskov region of Russia.
The Federal Assembly committee on the international affairs, RIA Novosti, non-commercial partnership on the assistance to development of civil society institutes "Civil Society", "Cohen Group" NGO and Veliky Novgorod administration were the initiators of the conference.
