MOSCOW, June 27 (RIA Novosti) - Russia backs the IAEA's initiative on creation of international centers to store and dispose of nuclear fuel.

This was said by Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov who spoke in Moscow at an international conference called "50 years of nuclear energy - lessons and tasks for the future."

"The IAEA suggests creating international centers to store and dispose of nuclear fuel, and now Russia is the only country where internal legislation makes it possible to realize it," Fradkov said.

The premier said that international cooperation with the IAEA is an important element of Russia's policy.

"Today, when global processes take place in the world, further fruitful cooperation in the sphere of nuclear industry in interaction with the IAEA is necessary," said the Russian prime minister.

In his words, today's conference is an element of this policy.

Fradkov emphasized that Moscow speaks for prevention of nuclear power industry products from getting into "wrong hands."

"Now we need to learn the lessons from the 50-year history of nuclear power industry, where tragic events happened as well. The nuclear power industry must meet the needs of humanity, environment safety, economic profitability, but it's also necessary to prevent nuclear power industry products from falling into 'wrong hands'," Fradkov stressed.
