MOSCOW, June 27 (RIA Novosti) - Currently 430 nuclear power plants operate in the world and produce 16% of the world's electric power, IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei disclosed at the international conference dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the world's nuclear energy.

The calculated power output of all nuclear power plants in the world is estimated at 350 gigawatt, the IAEA Director General said.

ElBaradei pointed out that the nuclear energy is ecologically clear and economically beneficial. He believes that the use of the nuclear energy will help to reduce the pollution of the atmosphere by hydrocarbons.

"It's hard to say what will happen with the electric energy in the next 50 years, but we have to imply all our efforts in order to make the nuclear energy safe, reliable, ecologically pure and economically grounded," ElBaradei concluded.
