"The summit can be timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary in the victory in the Great Patriotic War," Deputy Foreign Minister Valery Loshchinin said at the State Council session in the Kremlin.
According to him, last year leader of the three Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) refused to participate in the Russia-EU summit in Russia.
This time it will be more difficult to do it, he noted.
Anyway the summit can be held in the traditional format, Mr. Loshchinin added.
In his words, leaders of 54 states and the UN Secretary General will arrive in Russia to mark the 60th anniversary of the victory.
"Leaders of the CIS countries, permanent members of the UN Security Council, G8 and the European Union will be invited to the celebrations," Valery Loshchinin said.
Moreover, leaders of India, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, Croatia, Iceland, Turkey and Switzerland will be invited to Moscow, he remarked.
A military parade, a reception and cultural program will be held for the distinguished guests on May 9, Mr. Loshchinin noted.
An informal summit of the CIS leaders and their meeting with veterans will be held, as well.
The United Nations may proclaim May 8-9, 2005 the days of memory and reconciliation on the CIS initiative, the Deputy Foreign Minister said.
According to him, 2005 can be proclaimed the year to commemorate war victims. A special session of the UN General Assembly in September 2005 can be timed to this event, he added.
