KYRGYZSTAN HIGHLY ASSESSES RUSSIA'S ROLE IN RUSSIAN-LANGUAGE EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT IN REPUBLIC

MOSCOW, July 19 (RIA Novosti) - Kyrgyzstan's Education Ministry highly assesses Russia's role in the development of Russian-language education in the republic, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Such traditional projects as the upgrading courses, teachers and schoolchildren's contests and subscription to Russian periodicals and journals Literary Kyrgyzstan and Russian Language and Literature at School are growing in importance," the Foreign Ministry reported.

On July 15, certificates of graduation from the upgrading courses were handed to 65 Russian language and literature at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavonic University. All in all, 200 Kyrgyz teachers will be trained at these courses in July-August 2004.

Kyrgyzstan highly values Russia's humanitarian assistance (thousands of text-books, manuals and fiction books in the Russian language), the Foreign Ministry added.
