Russia proceeds from the assumption that the new practical steps on military separation of the forces along the cease-fire line and further cooperation between the Greek and the Turkish Cypriots could come in handy. "Their implementation would promote strengthening of the security and confidence environment - the basis for comprehensive settlement", reads the Russia Foreign Ministry's statement.
Moscow hopes that the Republic of Cyprus' initiative will be thoroughly considered by all the parties to the conflict and the first steps will be followed by new coordinated, constructive and integrated endeavours on both sides of the "green line".
"Russia is prepared to continue cooperation both with the Cypriot sides and with other parties concerned towards overall viable and just settlement of the Cypriot problem based upon applicable resolutions of the UN Security Council", emphasized the Russian Foreign Ministry.
