According to Vladimir Pronichev, the innovations in the Russian Border Guard Service's activities are aimed at making border crossing more flexible on one hand and stepping up the fight against such threats as terrorism, drug trafficking and illegal migration on the other hand. He pointed out that it should be promoted by enhancing the personnel's professional level and upgrading the technical equipment.
The Finnish side, according to Jaakko Smolander, backs Russia's intentions and in its turn intends to make cooperation between the Border Guard Service, Customs Office and Police more effective.
Vladimir Pronichev, staying in Finland with a four-day visit, met Finnish President Tarja Halonen on Tuesday.
The annual summer meetings of the Russian and Finnish Border Guard Services' heads became a tradition. Next year the meeting will be held in Russia.
