MOSCOW, July 26 (RIA Novosti) - Russia, Ukraine and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, intermediaries in the Transdniestrian settlement, are concerned about the negative turn in Chisinau-Tiraspol dialogue. The Russian Foreign Ministry's press and information department announced this commenting on Chisinau's decision to quit the negotiations on the Transdniestrian settlement.

The intermediaries "called on the sides to display responsibility and prevent destabilization of the situation as people on both the right and left banks of the Dniester River suffer from it," the Foreign Ministry stressed.

According to the department, "the Moldovan delegation's decision to suspend its participation in the permanent discussion of political issues of the Transdniestrian settlement is caused by the situation around the Moldovan schools in Transdniestria using the Latin alphabet and gives a political character to this humanitarian issue".

Moscow does not belittle the importance of the school problem and deems it necessary to seek its solution at the negotiation table, the Foreign Ministry said.

"Chisinau and Tiraspol's political leadership often claimed the inadmissibility of power methods to solve the Transdniestrian problem. Political wisdom and control over the events are highly important in this situation," the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.

"Mutual restraint will bring this issue back to the negotiations agenda. It is necessary to use former compromises on the registration of Moldovan-language schools with the Latin alphabet," the ministry noted.

"With the political will of Chisinau and Tiraspol the five-sided talks have enough potential to work out mutually beneficial decisions to form a solid basis of overall Transdniestrian settlement," the Foreign Ministry emphasized.
