This written statement was issued as an official document and distributed in the British parliament on July 23.
According to the Russian side, the document gives "well-known and little convincing reasons for political refuge of these persons in Great Britain. Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry saw new aspects in London's position. For instance, the British Foreign Secretary said that political refuge granted to these or those people does not mean the British government's support for their views and activities. The government is ready to take proper measures on any refugee if he is involved in illegal activities, in particular, terrorism, and poses threat to national security and public order, Jack Straw stressed.
This statement proves that London is fully aware that its biased and politicized decisions on Berezovsky and Zakayev affect Russian-British relations, the Russian Foreign Ministry believes.
"Now we can expect London's effective moves to cease Zakayev and Berezovsky's activities, which contradict Great Britain's international obligations, above all in the counter-terrorist sphere," the Foreign Ministry said.
"These developments and the removal of aggravations can consolidate mutual understanding and trust in Moscow-London dialogue," the Foreign Ministry added.
