MOSCOW, July 27 (RIA Novosti) - Defense officials in Moscow have described as a "gross violation of intergovernmental agreements" the incursion of Georgian security forces into Russian garrisons.

On July 25, Georgian security forces occupied Russian garrisons near Vaziani and Tbilisi, which is a severe violation of intergovernmental agreements regulating the handover of property from the Russian Military Command in the South Caucasus to Georgian authorities, the Defense Ministry says in a press release. According to the ministry officials, there are no residential buildings on the occupied territory, but only vacant military depots, watched over by unarmed guards.

Ministry officials called attention to the timing of the operation, undertaken just as the garrisons had been prepared for the transfer to Georgia's defense authorities. The Georgian side had been notified about the forthcoming handover in advance, they assured.
