GROZNY, July 28 (RIA Novosti) - Six militants (local Wahhabis) were eliminated as a result of a special operation in Argun, representative of the regional operative staff for the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus Major General Ilya Shabalkin told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.
"Today we discovered a house where local Wahhabis led by Abuzan Abulkarimov (nicknamed Great) was sheltering," he said.
According to him, the militants put up violent resistance and attempted to take hostages.
"The militants failed to use one hostage as a shield. Then they killed him and hid in the basement of a dwelling house," Ilya Shabalkin said.
As a result, the federal forces and Chechen police eliminated the militants. Investigation and identification of the Wahhabis are underway, he added.
