PARIS, July 28 (RIA Novosti's Fyodor Klimkin) - Sixty-five-year-old Russian Vladimir Ksenchak is traveling from Moscow to Madrid in his wheelchair as part of the action called "Russia-Europe: Without Drugs."

A resident of the village of Kavalerovo in the Primorye territory (Russia's Far East), he set off from Moscow on June 11, 2004. In a hand-driven wheelchair he has already traveled via Belarus, Poland, Germany and Luxembourg.

The traveler had to spend a few days in Paris to have his wheelchair fixed. On Wednesday Ksenchak left Paris for Spain. He intends to reach Madrid in 20 days.

The Russian moves along village, departmental or special bicycle roads, as movement of wheelchairs along highways is prohibited.

In the traveler's words, besides popularization of the idea of Russia and Europe together fighting against drugs, his action has one more goal - to raise invalids' spirits in Russia and beyond its borders, and to set them an example of an active lifestyle.

"By means of this race, I want to show that life does not end when a person becomes disabled, that there a lot of such people who, despite their maladies, try to achieve their goals," Ksenchak told RIA Novosti. "Courage, confidence in oneself and a strong willpower are needed for this," he added.
