"The sun is healthy and not 'vomiting,'" he said commenting on reports that solar anomalies had been observed this summer. "It is always very active, like a child, which is normal."
"The norm is several months of a lull, followed by a couple of months of activity," he explained.
He said that currently there was the most solar activity in the last 60-65 years.
"Such cyclic recurrence have been observed for centuries," he said. "It cannot be said that over the last few months the sun has gone crazy ... nothing extraordinary is happening."
Solar activity means electromagnetic changes in the Sun, which do not affect the weather on earth.
Institute's director Vladimir Kuznetsov, doctor of Physics and Mathematics, said that the solar cycle was 11 years. "The Sun is now approaching its minimum of activity," he said. "It is known, however, that massive flares and prominences may happen at the end of the phase."
For two months, there were no large flares. Then in July, there were three flares-the biggest were on July 25 and 27 - which entail strong magnetic storms.
"We observed such flares in only October and November last year," he said. "At the time, solar activity was so intense that the arctic Aurora could be observed in Moscow."
Experts said that solar activity produces different strong effects on humans and even on technical systems, such as low orbit satellites. "Our forecasts sometimes saved expensive satellites," Dr. Kuznetsov said.
"During magnetic storms caused by increased solar activity, people with cardiovascular diseases go to the doctor more often," he said. Also, there are more psychological disorders, reaction time changes and the possibility of poor decision making increases.
