The Sukhoi team flying Su-26M3 and Su-31 sporting planes has won silver (Mikhail Mamistov) and bronze (Victor Chmal), Alexei Poveschenko, aide to the general director of the Sukhoi holding, told RIA Novosti.
Sportsmen from the Sukhoi aeroclub (started 19 years ago) have won many prizes at Russian, European and world championships in individual and team classifications. Pilots from the Sukhoi training center who are part of the national team have won 300 medals - 122 gold, 102 silver and 62 bronze - in Su-26, Su-29 and Su-31 sporting planes.
The Russian aerobatics team won top awards. "At the last world championship in the United States in 2003, our team of absolute and many-time champions won 21 out of the 28 medals," Mr. Poveschenko said.
The light planes, Su-26 and Su-31, are the main Russian sporting planes today. The Russian aerobatics national team flying Su-31 has been performing at the European and world championships since 1994.
