Its fragments unburned in the dense atmosphere were dumped in the pre-set area in the Pacific Ocean at 15:25, Moscow time, said the official spokesman for the Mission Control Center in the Star City near Moscow.
At 10:06, Moscow time, the refuse-laden Progress M-49 was undocked from the International Space Station, de-orbited and dumped in the "spacecraft cemetery" in the 50-degree latitude in the Pacific Ocean.
Blast-off of the new transport ship Progress M-50 from the Baikonur space center (Russia has leased it from Kazakhstan for 49 years) is set for August 11, docking with the ISS for August 14. It will bring in food, fuel, water, spare parts and part of the load for the tenth live-in expedition, due to make for the ISS on October 9.
The tenth expedition will include standbys of the present crew -- Salizhan Sharipov of Russia and Leroy Chiao of the United States. Their companion for one week will be the first Russian space tourist, businessman Sergei Polonsky from St.Petersburg, or the first cosmonaut from the Russian Space Troops Yuri Shargin.
