WOMEN'S FORUM 2004 IS TAKING PLACE ON SAKHALIN

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, August 2 (RIA Novosti) - Women's Forum 2004 is taking place on Sakhalin on Monday.

This Russian-Japanese non-government event is being held by Sakhalin Region Vice-Governor Lyubov Shubina and Japanese MP T. Kobayasi.

The forum is taking place at the local Anton Chekhov scientific library. The conferees are discussing the forms and ways of Russian and Japanese women's participation in politics and business, the role of the family and mothers in raising a new generation.

Besides, women from the Sakhalin region and Hokkaido are discussing the common problem of discriminatory pays. They believe this is one of the forms of inequality which must be eradicated.

The delegation of women from Hokkaido is being hosted by the Ostovityanka (Islander) public organisation that is an associated member of the Russian Women's Union.
