"The first contest which ended a month ago did not yield desirable results. None of 85 submitted works won the first place. So we had to start everything anew," RIA Novosti's interlocutor said.
According to him, "the work winning the first place will be made the emblem of the celebrations of Kaliningrad's 750th anniversary. Its author will receive a $1,000 prize". "Two other emblems will be used to make holiday symbols. The contest commission will be working from October 16 to 31 of 2004. It will select three emblems regardless of the number of contest participants," he added.
The 750th anniversary of Kaliningrad will be marked from July to September 2005. Before World War II the city belonged to Germany, was named Koenigsberg and was the capital of Eastern Prussia. The city was formed from three townships, Kneiphof, Alstadt and Lebenicht and was included in the Hanseatic League.
