SAAKASHVILI ACCUSES RUSSIAN POLITICIANS OF IMPOSING CONFRONTATION ON GEORGIA

WASHINGTON, August 6. (RIA Novosti) - Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has accused Russian politicians of imposing confrontation on Georgia.

Some Russian politicians have made "very crazy and outrageous statements", including that Georgia encroaches on Russia's sovereignty, he told journalists after meeting US Secretary of State Colin Powell.

"When did Russia come to own part of Georgia?" he asked.

"What we least need is a confrontation, but it is what they want to impose on us, because they think that now we are so vulnerable," he said.

"Of course, we will get over it and I believe that the support of the US Administration will help it significantly," the president added.

Colin Powell, however, does not believe that Russian-Georgian relations are on the brink of crisis.

We have seen such problems before and I guess we know how to solve them diplomatically, he said, pointing out that the USA was working with both parties.
