MOSCOW

* Georgi Baramidze, Georgia's Defence Minister, is in Moscow on visit. Sergei Ivanov, his counterpart of the host country, will receive him to appreciate prospects for closer bilateral military cooperation

* Speaker Sergei Mironov of the Federation Council, parliament's upper house, addresses a news conference on the Council premises to sum up the spring parliamentary session.

* Nikolai Bordyuzha, Secretary General, Collective Security Treaty Organisation, addresses a news conference on, "The Frontier 2004 Military Exercise as One of Central Asian Stability Guarantees, and a lever of Organisation Progress".

* The Russo-Turkish Business Council Organising Committee holds session. Evgeni Primakov, President of Russia's Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has the chair. Top officers of the Gazprom, Transneft, SUAL Holding and other Russian-based corporate giants, and big Turkish businessmen with interests in Russia will attend.

* A jury will be appointed for hearings on the case of Alexei Pichugin, Yukos security. Twelve jurymen and standbys will be selected out of sixty candidates.

* The federal Supreme Court will consider prospects to quash Pavel Zaitsev's sentence. The investigator at large of the Interior Ministry's Investigation Committee, Zaitsev was convicted for abuse of office while detecting furniture contraband. Smuggled articles had been sold in Moscow's principal shops.

* RIA Novosti hosts a news conference on the 80th establishment anniversary of the newspaper, Sovetsky Sport, and upcoming international football games. Dedicated to the 85th birthday of Lev Filatov, Russia's oldest sport reviewer, the contest will be held in Moscow, September 10 into 12.

* A news conference will cover the Russia's Golden Saxophone festival.

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY

* An international geothermal seminar is opening. To last two days, it has gathered experts from 16 countries. They will debate the technical, economic and research aspects of geothermal power industrial progress. Leading the seminar is Anatoli Chubais, UES Rossii company head.

ST. PETERSBURG

* The research vessel "Akademik Fedorov" is departing for the Arctic Ocean to start the North Pole 33 research station on a drifting icefield.
