The premier, who addressed the cabinet session Thursday, pointed out that the operation of the Defense Ministry affects the defense industries and high technologies. "These are interrelated indices," he said. In his words, the work to determine which indices to make public calls for a creative attitude.
Vice Premier Alexander Zhukov thinks socially significant indices of the law enforcement and security departments should be determined and made public.
"For example, the Emergencies Ministry has a lot of open information. It is one of the ministries whose indices determine life expectancy in this country," he said, meaning the number of fire casualties and the number of drowned people and victims of other accidents. Mr. Zhukov believes that the ministry should work to bring down these figures, which will influence the quality of life.
The vice premier stressed that one of the fundamental goals outlined in the presidential address was to ensure the security and defense capability of the country. Concerned ministries and departments provided relevant information to the commission whose task is to improve the spending of budgetary appropriations.
According to Alexander Zhukov, such reports should be compiled in a confidential regime in view of "the specific information contained in such reports."
The government has met today to discuss plans and results of the operation of federal ministries and departments.
