RUSSIAN PRESIDENT CONGRATULATES INDIA'S LEADERSHIP ON INDEPENDENCE DAY

MOSCOW, August 15 (RIA Novosti) - The Kremlin press service reported that president of Russia Vladimir Putin had sent a congratulation on India's national holiday, Independence Day, to president of the Republic of India Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The congratulation to the president of India says, in particular:

"Russia is gratified by the significant successes which your country has registered in the economic and social sphere, and by the achievements in culture and science. India's authority and influence in the international arena have substantially grown.

"We note with satisfaction that today the fruitful cooperation of Russia and India in different fields has been undeviatingly expanding. I am confident that the Russian-Indian summit in New Delhi, scheduled for the end of this year, will make a weighty contribution to the deepening of bilateral relations, and will help further strengthen strategic partnership between our countries."

The congratulation to the Prime Minister of India reads, in particular:

"Relations of friendship, community of the approaches to resolution of key international problems, and mutually advantageous cooperation in different spheres have long been linking our countries. We highly value the fact that today the many-sided interaction of Russia and India has acquired the character of stable strategic partnership which fruitfully works to the benefit of our countries and peoples.

"We count on discussing the prospects of further expansion of Russian-Indian relations and the topical international issues with you in the course of the upcoming visit to India in December 2004. I am sure that the established practice of regular meetings at the summit level will make a weighty contribution to the strengthening of relations between our countries in the future, too."
