MOSCOW, August 16 (RIA Novosti) - South Ossetia proposes to hold a meeting of co-chairmen of the Joint Control Commission for the Georgian-Ossetian settlement with Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvaniya in Tbilisi, South Ossetian co-chairman of the Committee Boris Chochiyev said on the phone.

This means "a meeting of the Committee's co-chairmen with Zurab Zhvaniya concerning fulfillment of the recently achieved agreements," he explained.

The meeting may take place on Tuesday and be attended by OSCE representatives, Mr. Chochiyev said.

"I and the co-chairman from North Ossetia are ready to leave for Tbilisi," he added.

Meanwhile, Vazha Khachapuridze, envoy of the breakaway republic's leader, has left for Tbilisi to hold talks with the Georgian leadership.

At the same time Georgian Defense Minister Georgy Baramidze announced there was a risk that war might break out in the Tskhinvali region (as the official Tbilisi calls South Ossetia).

"Unfortunately, the risk of war is real. South Ossetian separatists are trying to turn the confrontation into hostilities. We do not want war, but if it is declared, we will respond adequately," the minister said at a press conference in Tbilisi.

According to him, "no matter who supports separatists, Georgia will not cede its territories to anyone and we are ready to protect our land".

"Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has given corresponding orders. Georgia's armed forces are on full alert and are ready for any developments," Mr. Baramidze pointed out.
