VELIKY NOVGOROD, August 16 (RIA Novosti's Andrei Letyagin) - Archeologists, involved in the excavations of the boyar necropolis of the Annunciation churchyard at Myachino (1179) in Veliky Novgorod, discovered 28 ancient graves, said anthropologist Denis Pezhemsky, Moscow, who supervises the works.

In August some remains will be taken to Moscow for examination. Mr. Pezhemsky will try to restore the appearance of ancient Novgorod residents in his laboratory. Moreover, a special genetic analysis will help researchers establish widespread diseases and even food in Veliky Novgorod.

According to Denis Pezhemsky, the results of the research work will be known in December.

After that, the remains will be taken back to Veliky Novgorod and buried in the Annunciation churchyard at Myachino and the lids will be displayed for sightseers in the graveyard, said the Novgorod State Museum-Reserve.

Unprecedented patterns, tentatively termed "wavy", decorate the coffin lids. Scholars are at a loss about techniques used to make the patterns on the slabs, the museum-reserve reported.

According to one version, Novgorod boyars resident in Ludin Street, a mediaeval aristocratic neighborhood, were buried in the necropolis dating back to the pre-Mongol and Mongol periods of Russia's history.

The unearthing of the necropolis was caused by the necessity to build a drainage system under the ancient Russian church to prevent soaking of its unique frescoes.

Before the discovery of the necropolis of the Annunciation churchyard at Myachino Russian archeologists have not found any preserved boyar graveyard of the 12th-14th centuries and have not carried out a complex research of such objects.
