With a 10 ruble nominal, the coin will appear in free circulation within the second half-year, says Nadezhda Savina, first deputy president of the National Bank of Karelia.
As the Central Bank of Russia has it on this year's schedule for memorial and investment coin, the Kem coin will be minted in October in a total 5,000.
On the White Sea coast in Karelia's north, Kem was a prominent medieval urban settlement. The oldest references to it in Russian chronicles date to the 15th century. Kem possesses several historical and architectural monuments of national purport-in particular, the Assumption Cathedral, one of the gems of northern wooden architecture. Its construction finished in 1714.
Kem is on the principal tourist route to the Solovki islands.
