MOSCOW AND BAKU DETERMINE WAYS OF COOPERATION

MOSCOW, August 18 (RIA Novosti) - On Wednesday Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov.

As officials of Russia's Foreign Ministry said, at the talks the sides suppose to pay special attention to the antiterrorist issues, to practical moves to combat terrorism in all of its manifestations.

The both sides will exchange views on topical issues concerning the development of the regional and international situations, ways to strengthen the central role of the UN as well as intensifying interaction within the CIS.

Ways to deepen cooperation between the Russian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministries in the Caucasus and in the international arena, and coordination of their actions in international organizations will also be discussed.

Great attention will be given to discussing the course of the fulfillment of the summit-level accords aimed at increasing the volume of economic cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan, in particular, at doubling goods turnover between the two countries and at bringing it to $1 billion within a few years to come, at making interaction in the fuel and energy complex more effective, and at developing the border links and cooperation of the Russian Federation's entities with Azerbaijan.

The issues of Russo-Azerbaijani humanitarian cooperation will also be touched upon in the course of the talks. The Ministers will analyze the course of the implementation of the interstate long-term program of cooperation in this sphere, adopted in February 2004.

An exchange of opinions on the current state of the process of working out the Caspian Sea's legal status is possible, and the prospects of holding a second Caspian summit will be considered.

A debate on the issue concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement is also on the agenda of the meeting.
