OSCE CHAIRMAN-IN-OFFICE ON RUSSIA'S ROLE IN GEORGIAN-OSSETIAN SETTLEMENT

VIENNA, August 21 (RIA Novosti) - Chairman-in-Office of the Organization for Cooperation and Security in Europe (OSCE), Bulgarian Foreign Minister Solomon Passy noted the role of the Russian Federation in efforts to achieve a settlement of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict in his letter to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Moreover, Mr. Passy, expressed concern over recent developments in the zone of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict and emphasized the need for urgent demilitarization in messages to Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity.

"I stress the urgency of an absolute cessation of violence as a precondition for reinvigorating dialogue on a political settlement," the Bulgarian Minister said.

Solomon Passy also reaffirmed OSCE willingness to help facilitate an early peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The Chairman-in-Office invited the parties to hold a meeting in Sofia for a high-level political dialogue on the conflict settlement.
