JAPANESE PARLIAMENT REPRESENTATIVE TO WATCH NUCLEAR SUB DISPOSAL IN RUSSIA

TOKYO, August 22 (RIA Novosti's Andrei Fesyun) - Representative of Japan's parliamentary committee for foreign affairs Kazunori Tanaka will visit the Russian Far East to watch the course of disposal of nuclear submarines no longer used.

The representative said that Secretary Tanaka will visit Vladivostok to watch the process of realization of the project to dispose of Viktor-3 nuclear submarines by NATO classification.

During his six-day visit that starts on Sunday, Mr. Tanaka will meet with Viktor Fyodorov, the commander of the Russian Pacific Fleet, together with whom he will visit the Russian naval base in Kamchatka.

Japan allocates some $200 million to dispose of nuclear submarines. This year, with the help of Japan, it's planned to complete work on one submarine and start disposing of another in 2005.

Russia's European part is waiting for the disposal of 50 submarines, and the Far East for the disposal of 40 subs.
