Total investments in the project are reported at an estimated 42 million dollars.
Kazakhstan's first oil tanker is to be commissioned in October 2004, the press release says. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will be the main contributor of funds.
Kazmortransflot has also got down to the creation of its own fleet to support sea operations, to be employed in projects to develop the Kazakh segment of the Caspian Sea.
Two platform barges ordered by Kazmortransflot with another Russian shipbuilding company were commissioned this past spring. The barges, with a capacity of 3,600 tons, will be carrying rocks to be used in building artificial islets off the Caspian Sea's northern coast, the press release reports.
The third quarter of 2004 will see the completion of works to build and upgrade oil berths at the Aktau international sea port. Once renovated, the Aktau port's oil berths will be able to accommodate tankers with DWT of up to 12,000 tons and a drought of up to 7 meters.
