"The troops withdrawal, which graphically demonstrated Russia's readiness for the formation of a new security architecture on the European continent, without trenches and borderlines, was undoubtedly a major landmark on the way to the creation of a truly united Europe without confrontation," the foreign ministry's press release reads. The foreign ministry also pointed out that in that unprecedented move the Russian side had met its treaty commitments in full volume, accurately and timely.
Moscow stressed that the withdrawal of Russian troops from Germany laid the foundations for the advance to the present qualitatively new relations of strategic partnership, good-neighborliness and cooperation between the two countries. This step was "a logical result of the final settlement of the German issue," the foreign ministry's press release reads.
"We are satisfied with the fact that this date is remembered and marked in a favorable manner in Germany too," the press release says in conclusion.
