NEW YORK, August 25 (RIA Novosti's Andrei Loshchinin) - The tour of the mime theatre of Vyacheslav Polunin, rated as the best clown in the world by The Times newspaper, began in New York on Tuesday. The clown will perform his famous Snowshow in the Union Square theatre for six weeks.

"The programme for the United States is a bit different from the programme shown in Moscow last December," Polunin said in an interview with RIA Novosti. "Every time I try to harmonise it with the general tone of the country where I perform, taking into consideration the public's reaction to the first performances. Sometimes, I change some scenes, characters and plots. In England, I perform an absurdist show, in France - a poetic show, and in Russia - a tragicomic show. The Russian audience has a special rare feature of empathy with the character, and I base my programme at home on it. Here, Snowshow will be the celebration of communication."

According to Polunin, the main theme of the performance is the return to one's childhood. "I want people who come to my show to remember their childhood dreams, to return to their childhood for two hours," he said. "My new troupe consisting of wonderful artists not only from Russia but also from Great Britain, Canada and the Czech Republic, help me in this."

Polunin said that he would perform in Moscow in December again, where he will perform in the Vakhtangov Theatre for three weeks. Then he will head for Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and Tomsk.

"I want the Snowshow to be firmly associated in Russia with New Year, like the film the Irony of Fate, or the ballet Nutcracker," the artist said. His plans for next year also include the participation of his troupe in the cultural programme, Expo-2004, in Japan.
