MOSCOW, August 25 (RIA Novosti) - Policemen detained a large batch of smuggled counterfeit cigarettes in Moscow. Overall damage inflicted upon the rights holders is over $1 million. This was reported by the press service of the Main Department on the Fight Against Economic and Tax Crimes (GUBEP) of the Federal Service on Economic and Tax Crimes (FSENP) of the Russian Interior Ministry.

"Officers of the FSENP GUBEP's 13th department together with operative and technical units of the Russian Interior Ministry carried out actions to reveal and block underground production and realization of counterfeit cigarettes under the brands of well-known foreign producers Marlboro, Prince etc. in Moscow and the Moscow region," said the source.

According to the press service, policemen detained two trucks on Dmitrovskoye highway and in Solntsevo (Moscow region) which carried cigarettes for further realization in European Union countries.

"The U.S. was noted as the producer country on the fake packs. To smuggle the contraband across the border, boxes with cigarettes were packed into spaghetti packing and plastic crumb," said a GUBEP representative.

In his words, experts noted low quality of tobacco used in the cigarettes.
