The conflict erupted after Transniestrian authorities' decision to close down secondary schools established by the Moldovan government to provide education in the Romanian language. Moldova responded with economic sanctions against Transniestria.
In recent days, Moldova and Transniestria have finally made some progress in reaching a compromise on the registration of Roman-language schools, and will now be able to resume the discussion of controversial issues with the three mediating parties, reports the Russian Foreign Ministry.
In his talks with Moldovan and Transniestrian officials, Savolsky reemphasized the counter-productivity of retaliatory actions, such as economic pressure and blockade, the ministry says in its press release.
