NINE SERVICEMEN KILLED IN CHECHNYA

GROZNY, September 2, (RIA Novosti) - Nine servicemen died when two motor convoys hit a mine in Chechnya, Chechnya's Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti.

"On Wednesday evening, on the western outskirts of the village of Prigorodnoye, Grozny district, when a convoy of federal forces was passing, a home-made explosive device was detonated," the source told RIA Novosti.

According to the source, gravely wounded men were taken to a hospital in Khankala, but eight of them died from the wounds they received.

After the convoy was hit, two armoured personnel carriers drove to Prigorodnoye to give help. They also ran into a mine. Senior lieutenant Sergei Khudoshin was killed.
