VLADIVOSTOK HOSTS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

VLADIVOSTOK, September 3 (RIA Novosti's Veronika Perminova) - The second Pacific Meridian international film festival is to open in Vladivostok today, involving 17 countries of the world.

The list of participants includes Australia, Austria, Bhutan, Hong Kong, India, Canada, China, South Korea, North Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, the United States, Thailand, the Philippines, Chad and Japan, reports the festival organizing committee.

The festival commission has selected 76 out of 200 films, which were submitted by applicants.

Ten feature films and seven short movies will be shown during the festival. Their list includes three Russian movies, i.e. Alexander Rogozhkin's "Sapiens", Andrei Proshkin's "The Games Of The Butterflies" and Artem Antonov's "Capital City Express." The festival's prize fund remains almost the same as last year, totalling $105,000.

The festival will feature some extra programs, i.e. "New Russian Movies", "The Films That Won Asia-Pacific Festivals" "Special Opinion", "International Film Schools", "World-Famous Film Directors Pass In Review" and "Mosfilm Studio Turns Eighty".

The festival jury headed by Sergei Yursky includes South Korean film director Kim Song-Su, US film critic Fred Lynch, French film critic Stephane Goudet and film director John Hughes from Australia.

A gala concert involving festival guests, as well as the "Cinema World" and "Those Wonderful Men" exhibitions, will be organized during the festival.

The film-festival program also stipulates a football friendly between the select team of the Primorye territory governor and that comprising festival participants.
