TBILISI, September 8 (RIA Novosti) - Georgia will double its military contingent in Iraq in October. It will reach 399 servicemen. According to Novosti-Georgia agency Georgian defense minister Georgy Baramidze, who returned from Iraq, said this in Tbilisi on Wednesday.

At present 158 Georgian servicemen stay in the Iraqi town of Bakuba.

"It is very important for us that Georgian servicemen can participate in a serious process, which in the coming years and decades will determine many world processes," Mr. Baramidze said.

He pointed out that Georgia should also have another serious unit with high combat ability, "which will be used in the country and outside it if it is necessary."
