CPRF SLAMMED BY ALTERNATIVE COMMUNIST PARTY

GOLITSYNO, MOSCOW REGION, SEPTEMBER 11 (RIA Novosti) - A constituent congress of Russia's alternative Communist Party has opened in the Moscow Region today, at the initiative of former opposition-minded CPRF (Communist Party of the Russian Federation) members, expelled by the party's leader, Gennady Zyuganov, for criticizing himself and other CPRF bosses.

Ivanovo Governor Vladimir Tikhonov, who is one of the alternative Communist party's "founding fathers", accused Zyuganov and other CPRF leaders of opportunism and compromise.

The CPRF's crushing defeat in the latest parliamentary and presidential elections can be explained by Zyuganov's inaction, Tikhonov noted. Instead of advancing an action program, Zyuganov voiced his traditional incantations; he also slammed the authorities, indulging in empty-worded criticism, Tikhonov noted.

Tikhonov also accused Zyuganov of monopolizing power in the CPRF and thereby pushing the party to the sidelines of political life, Tikhonov stressed.

The Ivanovo Governor said the CPRF had betrayed the Marxist-Leninist ideology to replace it with a Zyuganov-style ideology, shying away from class struggle and establishing false precepts, such as state patriotism and partnership with Church.

The present-day intra-CPRF situation rules out any reforms from the inside, Tikhonov argues. He said the new party would be staunchly advocating Marxism-Leninism and would come up with an alternative economic development model.

The breakaway party's constituent congress has brought together 179 delegates representing 64 regions across the nation. It will in all probability be named All-Russian Communist Party of the Future (Russian acronym, VKPB).

The delegates are expected to approve the party's charter and program and to elect its governing and supervisory bodies.
