"Terrorism is a Nazism of the 21st century. The only way to defend ourselves against it is rooting it out," the statement says.
"On September 11, 2001, many came to realize that the world had undergone an irrevocable change. New-generation terrorism then put itself on the world map in a most hideous manner. Back then, not all of us could fully comprehend the actual magnitude of the threat posed by our attackers. The entire world reawakened to this threat when shaken by yet another barbarous terrorist act--this time around, in Russia," the Foreign Ministry says in its statement.
"Terrorism, which affects many different countries, is international in nature and has no ethnic, religious, cultural, or any other affiliation. Terrorism defies all legal and moral constraints. Its goal is to destroy the very foundation of our civilization, to subdue the world to its will," the statement reads.
"We, the civilized world, will surely win in the mortal combat against terror if we come to realize that terrorism is our No. 1 enemy and if we join hands and act consistently and honestly toward one other," the ministry emphasizes. It goes on to underline the necessity of "countering terrorist threats' new dimension with a qualitatively new level of antiterrorist partnership, absolutely free of double standards."
The Russian Foreign Ministry deems it vitally important to engage civil society in the war on terror. The public's contribution could be, among other things, about revealing the inhuman nature of terrorism.
Concluding its statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry calls on nations to put their differences behind and join hands to ward the terrorist threat off their shared home.
