The Russian and French delegations were headed by ambassador at large Anatoly Safonov and director of the strategic affairs, security and disarmament department of the French Foreign Ministry Philippe Carre.
"The sides discussed the fight against new challenges and threats, above all international terrorism and drug trafficking," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The participants highly assessed Russian-French anti-terrorist cooperation within the framework of the UN, OSCE, G8 and other international organizations and forums.
The sides exchanged national counter-terrorist experience and considered the growing terrorist threat in Europe and other parts of the world, the Foreign Ministry noted.
"The sides pointed out the necessity to aim inter-departmental anti-terrorist cooperation at the achievement of practical results," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. The participants stressed that today anti-terrorist cooperation is a key factor of real partnership between countries.
They expressed special concern for the developments in Iraq, which, according to the working group, has turned into the booster of international terrorism, and for the problems of terrorist financing and drug trafficking from Afghanistan.
The working group is to maintain permanent and regular contacts.
