MOSCOW, September 20 (RIA Novosti) - An exposition "Icons from private collections. Russian icon painting of the 14th - beginning of the 20th centuries" has opened in the Andrei Rublev Central Museum of Ancient Russian Culture and Art on Monday.

The first exposition of icons from private collections since 1917 was held 30 years ago. The current exposition sums up the results of icon collecting in Russia over the last 30 years. A new generation of collectors has emerged in this period and chronological and thematic framework of their interests have been extended, the project organizers told RIA Novosti.

The exposition features 165 icons, carved wood sculptures and sewing pieces from 33 private collections. Collectors from Moscow, Yaroslavl and Rybinsk participate in the exposition.

The showpieces reflect key stylistic trends and stages of the development of Russia's icon painting traditions. Among them are unique icons of the 14th-15th centuries associated with artistic traditions of Moscow, Rostov, Novgorod, Pskov and Tver, which can be rightfully called masterpieces.

The exposition will be running for two months.
