MOSCOW MAY ACCEPT CHANGES TO DRAFT ANTITERRORISM RESOLUTION

MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti) - Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Fedotov said that Moscow would allow changes to be made to Russia's draft UN Security Council antiterrorism resolution, but expects it to be adopted soon.

"The specific wording may require additional work, but overall, we expect the resolution to be adopted soon," he said.

The Russian party has tried to combine other countries' ideas on combating terrorism.

"Our draft resolution was prepared assuming that it would be supported," he said. "That is, these are constructive ideas, including ones that many countries have recently expressed. We have tried to combine them."

When asked about other countries' response to Moscow's initiative, the diplomat said: "We are now working with our partners in the Security Council and beyond it."

"We expect the new resolution to be an important move to increase the effectiveness of the UN Counter Terrorism Committee," he said, "and on the whole, intensify this work under the aegis of the organization, which really requires new impulses with because of recent events."
